The Ultimate LISPP Netball Tournament in Melbourne

SLISPP Netball Tournament Australia – 2026

The days are drawing closer for the long-awaited netball sensation for all Sri Lankans living in Australia. This tournament is highly significant, proudly holding the title of the largest Sri Lankan netball event across both Australia and New Zealand.

All arrangements are now nearing completion for the Sri Lankan Interschool Past Pupils’ Netball Tournament, which is exclusively organised for female past pupils of Sri Lankan schools. This year marks its fourth edition.

The event is proudly organised by the Devians Victoria Chapter of the Maliyadeva Girls’ School Old Pupils’ Association.

When the tournament debuted in 2023, just 10 teams competed. The following year saw participation rise to 15 teams, and by its third edition, 17 teams took part, a clear sign of the event’s rapid growth and increasing popularity. This year marks the biggest edition yet, with 22 teams ready to compete. Among them are 20 teams representing 16 different schools, along with 2 combined teams comprising past pupils from various schools.

The tournament will feature 20 teams representing 16 individual schools, along with 2 mixed teams composed of past pupils from different schools. Altogether, past pupils from 35 Sri Lankan schools will come together on a single playground, a truly special occasion.

Among the 22 competing teams, those that achieve the highest scores in the main tournament will battle for the Sri Lankan Interschool Past Pupils’ Netball Championship Trophy and the Runner Up title, while the remaining teams will compete for the Plate Championship Trophy and Runner Up.

In addition, a special exhibition match has been organised for children under the age of 13.

Nilmini Dasanayake, founder of the Sri Lankan Interschool Past Pupils’ Netball Tournament, President of its Independent Tournament Organising Committee, and Tournament Head, shared her vision with us. She explained that the tournament was initiated to provide a platform for past pupils who had excelled in netball while in Sri Lanka to showcase their skills once again, while also promoting friendship and collaboration among past pupils through the sport.

She further added that this year’s tournament will feature a Kids’ Championship with the aim of encouraging Sri Lankan children in Australia to pursue netball, and an exhibition match for children under 13, adding a unique and exciting dimension to the event.

On Labour Day, Sunday, 9th March, visitors to Casey Stadium will have the unique opportunity to witness this grand netball tournament live.
